Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, formerly known as Twitter, has initiated legal action against a global advertising alliance and several major corporations, accusing them of orchestrating a boycott that resulted in substantial revenue loss.
The lawsuit, filed in a Texas federal court, targets the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA) along with high-profile companies like Unilever, Mars, CVS Health, and Orsted. X alleges that these entities, acting in concert through the WFA’s Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM), deliberately withheld billions of dollars in advertising revenue.
The crux of the complaint lies in the claim that advertisers conspired to boycott X following Musk’s acquisition of the platform in late 2022. Concerns over the proliferation of harmful content, including hate speech and misinformation, prompted many companies to suspend ad campaigns.
