Texas Tech’s 2026 recruiting class just got a big boost with the commitment of Kaegan Ash, a versatile and athletic linebacker from Mount Enterprise High School in East Texas. Ash announced his pledge on Sunday, choosing the Red Raiders over 14 offers from programs including the Air Force, Army, Navy, Washington State, UTSA, and Texas State.
Ash, who measures 6 feet and 205 pounds, earned his Texas Tech offer on June 8th during a standout performance at a summer camp hosted by the school. The offer came directly from defensive coordinator Shiel Wood, who had invited Ash with a clear message: perform well, and the offer would come.
“It was Coach Wood; he called and asked me to come to camp,” Ash said. “He said he was gonna offer me if I had a good day at camp. And that’s what I did. I went out and I competed. Ran some good times, had my best 40, my best vertical, my best broad jump.”
Just a week later, Ash made things official with a commitment. He cited Texas Tech’s competitive environment and coaching staff as key reasons for his decision. “It just felt like a good place. A place I can go and compete at the top of the level,” he explained.
Ash has been a standout on both offense and defense. As a junior, he racked up 1,960 rushing yards and 32 touchdowns on 244 carries while also posting 49 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and scoring two defensive touchdowns. His rare combination of strength, speed, and football IQ makes him one of the more dynamic prospects in the region.
Off the field, Ash has also impressed in track & field, notching personal bests this spring in the 100 meters (10.89), 200 meters (22.56), and triple jump (49 feet, 3.25 inches). At the Under Armour Next Camp in April, he recorded a 4.47-second 40-yard dash and a broad jump just under 10 feet.
Ash becomes the 13th commitment in Texas Tech’s 2026 class and the third linebacker, joining Tieson Ejiawoko (Georgetown East View) and Cord Nolan (Bixby). His addition continues a strong early recruiting push for the Red Raiders, who appear to be assembling a physically gifted and highly motivated defensive corps.
“I’m gonna be bringing a bunch of stuff,” Ash promised. “Good defense and I’m gonna try to win every game, especially.”
